Wow who could have possibly seen this coming
SELL US BONDS. Then get them back, at lower prices.
I don’t know what the EU was thinking. You can’t appease a narcissist with dementia.
A lone narcissist with dementia would have been impeached by the billionaires by now.
Trump is just the figure head of American Capitalists. That’s much more dangerous because American investment funds also own European companies and thus European politicians.
A bit more complicated than that. A figurehead for monied interests’ war on reality, but also representing the extremist religious of all denominations, the evangelicals, 25 percent of his base if memory serves, want the world to collapse so christ returns and the world drowns in lakes of blood and fire.
Religion is abreast with big money.
That’s sad but very true… look at Munich and Microsoft for example. Söder is MS’s Bitch

There’s no way we could have ever known or predicted this…
It worked with putin, right?
Right…?
We never learn from history, do we?
Wait… wie arent celebrating Chamberlain Day in the 30th of September?

Yes, we are, it’s the day when people who have gone out of their way to appease a warmonger into starting, or continuing a war anyway will receive their well earned peace price.
That’s weird, it worked so well with Hitler.
Crazy how this strategy keeps being pursued and failed.
Just let him have
Sudetenland and AustriaVenezuela and Greenland and he’ll calm down.It is the strategy that causes the least distruption in the short term, I understand it’s appealing especially if a country is in a tight spot to begin with. People really need to learn to think ahead more than 2 weeks.
They aren’t in a tight spot. They are only in a tight spot relatively speaking. We have oceans of wealth. We don’t have focused political will, because they only give a shit about the numbers, not the ideals that should steer our societies.
Arguably it bought Europe a half a year.
I seriously hope that this was their hidden rationale, though I’m not holding my breath.
History is repeating. Why?
It’s not being taught or talked about. Just make short PSAs
Trump is a terrorist and perhaps the rest of the world should remember that it’s not useful to negotiate with terrorists.
I do think Trump is bad. But seeing as you’re from Lemmy.ml you probably defend imperialism when it comes from other countries: China and Russia.
I think international law might be a good idea. A set of laws that the US, China, Russia, and all other countries would have to abide by.
I don’t support Russia But i do support China; Mainly because my country has strong economic ties to china; because they are the suppliers and developers of various green energy technologies and because if we need a deterrent for American aggression china will be our best and maybe only hope. Also in my experience Europeans tend to be such bootlickers for America and their imperialism, i always take their opinions with a grain of salt. I think that The Nazi americans could just make a bloodbath out of us in Latin American and the Europeans (the governments and most of the people) would make excuses for them. (looking at how much European governments and industry profited from the Palestinian genocide I feel they would find profit opportunities from united states attacks on Latin America as well!)
But in the End America’s fascism is starting to project towards Europe. So it’s going to be interesting to see how the European countries react when the violence and intervention that has been directed towards the global south really starts to affect your people; For how bad the american empire is crumbling, what you see now may only be a peek of what’s coming.
As the other reply said, you are unhappy about the situation in Palestine, but not about the situation in Xinjiang. I think my position is that Israel is wrong to kill Palestinian civilians, Hamas is wrong to kill Israeli civilians, and China is wrong to lock up Uyghurs in internment camps.
As for the US, sure their imperialism is worrying, whether it’s invading Venezuela or taking Greenland. I don’t think that means Chinese imperialism is any better though - e.g. their desire to take Taiwan, regardless of the wishes of the Taiwanese people.
Oh no, not just the situation with Palestine; You see i have a good memory and i remember when Europe also ate up American propaganda and completely destroyed Iraq looking for weapons of mass destruction that never existed. It’s not that i am angry about anything it’s more that the track record of this kind of propaganda being paints the west in a very bad light.
And i remember the news casts and the magazine articles of the time. I remember the little dweebs everywhere saying that if you were against the Iraq war you were siding with evil dictators with weapons of mass destruction. I also remember all the people slaughtered by that campaign. And where were the nuclears in Iraq? None. Just a lot of bloodthirsty westerners doing what they love.
You talk about “bloodthirsty westerners” but there was a lot of opposition in the West to the Iraq War. I think France refused to get involved at all in Iraq, spurring Americans to rename french fries to “freedom fries”. There were protests like this across western countries.
Anyway I would agree with you that American imperialism is bad. I just think that Chinese and Russian imperialism are also bad. For example China seems to want to take Taiwan, and islands in the South China Sea, without regard for laws or for democratic wishes.
Maybe a world of large powers (US, China, Russia) invading wherever they like is bad for all of us.
I think that The Nazi americans could just make a bloodbath out of us in Latin American and the Europeans (the governments and most of the people) would make excuses for them. (looking at how much European governments and industry profited from the Palestinian genocide
China is making a bloodbath RIGHT NOW and you’re supporting China. You blame Europe for possibly doing something in a hypothetical future in your mind what China is doing in the real world as we speak.
Palestinian genocide bad, Uyghur genocide totally fine, despite it being at a MUCH larger scale?
Well lets put it this way, since according to this data of yours, if it’s true, both sides are committing genocides and both sides are going to war i will support the side that won’t commit genocides towards me. And i will fight the war in the side that won’t turn against me and my people.
I will also be very wary of propaganda, because in Latin America, propaganda pushed by the united has been used to overturn governments, make excuses for death squads and legitimize governments that kill thousands. Hell we just saw the propaganda machine of the west trying to bury the horrific deaths in Palestine, lying to our faces like we are imbeciles. While they were not only profiting but actively arming the genocide. In UK and Germany the propaganda for the war machine hasn’t even ended, actively arresting protesters; Censorship in big tech social media. And threatening journalists. I feel they could do this to any one of us. They are already aiming for Mexico and Colombia; They already meddled in the elections of Chile and Argentina. Of course i will side with the country that takes up my cause and not the counties that encourages these aggressions.
Then to make things worse; I’ve been noticing that the Far right is taking a strong foothold in europe: The AfD is gaining a lot of ground in Germany and a lot of German people I’ve talked with seem to agree with their maxims. There is Meloni in Italy; An open crony for trump; Spain might have a right wing victory as well, and even Starmer’s Labor party in England has been making excuses for mass murder. And they might get an even more right wing government next. All of those people don’t sound like either “allies” or “civilized” and things are just keep getting worse.
So i will also take with a grain of salt anything that comes from state sponsored news sources from america and it’s vassal states in europe. Especially if there is a hint of war intent behind their words.
But wait there is more! This push towards fascism in the west could be the last gasps of a collapsing neoliberal system. Violence could potentially be directed inward as governments see their economies crumble, as corporations gain so much power they turn into modern feudal houses and the impossibility to sustain these contradictions will make governments turn more oppressive to their own people. A lot of countries might collapse without war, but crumble under dying economies and aging infrastructure. And at some time in the future we will need to revaluate our political systems as a whole and establish real mechanisms to protect international law, because the current ones are a laughable joke as we’ve seen.
Most importantly. The west will need to learn to share a multipolar world. And that might not be so bad. People will finally have choices to live their lives. Maybe we could have a little peace.
