In the last day, I’ve found two accounts banned for threats of violence where I’ve hardly found any in the last 3 years. Is something in the air?

This is actually something I find really nice about Lemmy. No matter what crazy takes get thrown around, you rarely see blunt personal attacks or threats of voilence…

Between users that is. You’ll definitely find some ready pitchforks when you look into political arguements, because pacifism is out of fashion I guess.

Closest I’ve seen recently is me getting a little heated over a certain thing coming into law and me saying how I would love to bash some skulls over that law since it essentially allows pedophilia to be legalized to keep “boys” ( trans girls ) out of girls sports by forcing minors to do genital inspections.

Oof. Yes. That would honestly be a pretty good reason to commit some violence.

Don’t touch kids, you disgusting fuckwits.

No, not yet but I have the lovely encounter with one nutjob. Blocked the person and moved on.

Lemmy seems to slowly attract that kind of people, unfortunately. I think it is unavoidable.

For legal purposes, I dont advocate violence, but like… it’s far better than far-right sites that are advocating murdering black people / jewish people / muslims / etc…

At least on “far-left” spaces, the targets are usually those on the top or individuals that were advocating bigotry in the first place.

Are you just now noticing this? Lmfao this aint new, Lemmy has been like this since its inception.

Also if you look at mainstream sites like say youtube comments, you get lots of people advocating death for “murderers and rapists”, and there are even support for mangione. Its not new lol.

It’s less than a week after one of the most consequential and unexpected midterm elections in US history. Some people are gonna be keyed up. Even if it was a normal midterm election people would be keyed up.

    Expected seasonal blip, basically.

Honestly I feel like its less but I block liberally. And I discuss it at times. I have not been on especially heavy the last few days though.

No. I think the most I saw was for a while after the Luigi Mangione shooting, but that’s fallen off.

EDIT: I would easily believe that it’d be likely to be community-specific, so might be upset people in some specific community that you frequent. Lot of communities out there.

Why would you assume your anecdotal evidence means there’s been a change or even a trend?

      “Is this a thing?”

      “You’re making assumptions.”

What? I didn’t. That’s literally the point of posing this question.
