17·2 days agoThe mobile ecosystem is what happens when people who went to business school get to make all of the decisions instead of engineers or users.
Security has become the new “save the kids” to swindle people who don’t know any better into giving up their rights.

19·3 days agoWow! He really doesn’t want Westerners to buy Chinese electric cars that are much more affordable than the ones currently available.
Every modern capitalist is either a scammer or a moron.

131·3 days agoPersonally, I don’t think I’d want a free TV that perpetually pelts me with ads
Uhh, surely there must be a way to disable this once the TVs are in our hands.

It’s fine if people want to get mad about it, but it’s more effective to just learn to live with it because it’s not going away.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Accidentelly run out of disk space when executing `apt upgrade` - Debian doesn't boot anymore
151·3 days agoSorry that happened to you.
The distro developers should implement a solution so that updating without enough space doesn’t break your system. They could prevent the update or at least warn you that there’s not enough space and bad things can happen.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•If you have one, how much do you pay for a domain name? Any cheap registrar recommendations?English
81·3 days agoCloudflare offers at-cost domain names. There’s a lot of issues with using them though. Since they’re so big, they have a culture of giving governments/oligarchs whatever they want.
There is Njalla, owned by someone involved with The Pirate Bay. It supposedly allows users to buy domain names privately, although I’m not sure at what cost. I’ve read users saying that Njalla will revoke domain names if pressured by outside forces, so they don’t seem like a good option similar to cloudflare.
The DNS is a tool of surveillance and control and we should move away from it as quickly as possible.

Damn, they weren’t even doing this to go after pedos.
I’m curious where in the economic ladder this person fell. Rich enough to get a significant amount of money from the system, but still too poor to make the government look the other way.
