Time and again it seems that the entire purpose of the royal family is to seem a bit mystical and special to the Americans.
I’d like their constitutional role to be completely removed from the UK, but we should just not tell the Americans them and keep sending them over.

Elect a president, but call whoever wins a king/queen. We get democracy, they get a royal to fawn over.

Maybe we should abolish the monarchy and have an elected head of state instead. Also perhaps we should increase our trading relationship with the EU for a real boost to our economy, instead of whatever tiny boost we might get from the US dropping tariffs on whisky.
Oh yeah, nothing could ever go wrong with a politician having that much power.
I think Ireland and Germany have good systems. Both of them have a president who is mostly ceremonial, like our monarch. The real power lies with the heads of government (taoiseach in Ireland, chancellor in Germany), who are equivalent to the UK prime minister.
That’s why the next British Head Of State should be somebody beloved by everyone, like Mr Blobby, Roland Rat, or Mecha Attenborough.
I like the idea of Mecha Attenborough. I hope the technology for this will be discovered soon.
In any case, in Ireland it seems that the public elect their president, but in Germany it’s parliamentarians who elect the president. So the Irish model would be more obviously democratic. And they use ranked voting for this, so that should make controversial candidates less likely to win.

You’re telling me the US, where Kentucky is, imports whiskey from fucking Britain?
Bourbon has to be aged in “virgin oak” i.e. a brand new barrel to be classified as bourbon. Which is why it’s so dark in colour and part of why it’s so sweet. They sell the used barrels off after they’re done with them to get some money back on the now unusable (for them) barrel.
Most Scotch is aged in ex bourbon barrels or ex sherry/port barrels. Using ex bourbon barrels gives the Scotch a lighter, more golden colour, and a more delicate flavour. Notes like vanilla, honey, caramel or florals.
Ex sherry and port give Scotch a darker amber to a deep red colour with rich and sweet flavours like stewed fruits, spices like cinnamon or cloves and a stronger darker caramel.
Most Scotch brand product lines will be like “ex bourbon barrel aged with: no age listed, 12 year old, 15 year old, 21 year old etc”. and then their other line will be the same again but in sherry barrels. They may also have a “sherry finish” where it’s aged for 10 years in bourbon then 2 in sherry, since the barrels impart less flavour the more they are used they can squeeze more out of the sherry barrels.
Sherry barrels cost magnitudes more than bourbon barrels. I was told (like ten years ago so grain of salt on the figures) that bourbon barrels are around 50-100usd per barrel while sherry is close to £1000 per barrel. Hence why the tariffs would be screwing over the industry.

They import whisky. They export whiskey. There is a world of difference. And whisky (especially a quality single malt) is far superior.
Well for scotch and Irish whisky, (wait thought scotch either added or removed the last e but I doubled checked something else and lost a message already, maybe it was a UK vs NA thing I dunno anymore)
But apparently the scotch industry is the biggest buyer of Kentucky’s bourbon barrels. What do you know, random sweeping tariffs impact tiny industries that are big for the red states.
Funny it took the King of Canada (well also Britain) to get Trump to change his mind.
Mean actual kings know diplomacy and statecraft, I bet King Charles did it at best over Hors d’oeuvres to leave important issues for a proper time. That was probably a footnote in something to bring up. But pour a tiny bit of honey in his ear and Trump will dance like one of those symbol dancing monkeys. I think Iran is figuring out how to phrase their demands correctly.

The whisky industry is like multi billions worldwide, it’s not a small industry. There’s definitely some lobbying going on here lol.
