Ed Miliband is helping to turn the country into a nation of 'solar zealots' and Josiah Mortimer is enthusiastically along for the ride

You can’t shout it from the rooftops, you’ll block the panels.

Yes but it’s still cost prohibitive for regular people

Is it? I feel like a fairly regular person and am considering them. Only had the house a couple of years, already replaced the boiler with a heat pump.

Shame the roof isn’t south facing but panels would still work. Also thinking of a battery.

Yeah like 10-15k. It’s the batteries that cost the most money. Panels are a lot cheaper.

Yeah that is the sort of price I was expecting. How much for solar alone out of curiosity? Not looked at that as much, and not sure how much load I could shift to daytime, suppose you could just set some things to daytime without even checking the solar output and on average the solar will cover a good chunk of their usage. It just goes against my instinct to minmax it.

I wonder how much power they make in winter, could set the heating (heat pump) higher during the day to benefit from generally having some of the power coming from solar

Quick edit: looks like you can get fairly good export rates, at least half the rate you pay for energy. So might be worth just exporting more with more panels instead of getting a battery.

Rooftops is where it belongs, not on farmland.

Farmers who graze sheep under solar panels say it improves productivity.

Apparently so, and it also helps with growing crops.

Much easier/cheaper to maintain on farmland. Just stop growing stuff for biofuel. (Or grow crops underneath!
