Explanation: During the final siege of Constantinople, the besieging Ottoman Turkish forces took a little something special to those formidable ancient walls which had frustrated numerous (though not all) previous assailants on the city: the cutting-edge technology of cannons! And not only that, but some of the largest ever made.

It took some time - and one of the largest and most impressive cannons bursting from being fired too much/overheating/catastrophic integrity failure - but the Ottomans eventually battered down the walls, and ended the Byzantine Empire for good.

Then Europe itself rose to prevent them from getting Vienna(multiple times before the whole Sabaton song stuff).

Because every time the Ottomans marched on Vienna, the environment pulled a Russia and forced them to either turn back outright or abandon their heavy guns or some other critical issue that led to them losing.

The last time is when the Winged Hussars come into play and was basically the only time in 150 years that they managed to get all of their full force to Vienna.
