So the monitor connects via HDMI? And somehow installs something over the HDMI connection? Or is the user conned into installing the LG app under the guise of improved monitor functionality or some such bullshit?

If it can operate with a dumb switch, it can be run with an ESP32. You can probably also get an old fashioned wired keypad ( KEP-1 I think) for local operation.

I used to use Bontrager gel cork tape because I liked the cushy feel. Then someone got me to try some Supacaz because the color was cool ( I know). Found out I love the stickier feel of that tape and it’s all I run now on all three bikes.
