I hate how, over the last 30 years, the burden for people to not be ripped off by companies has shifted to the individual. Why must I use my limited free time and mental capacity to shop around for car insurance, contents insurance, buildings insurance, rail travel, energy suppliers and now vets? To hell with ‘free market capitalism’.
Aside from complying with consumer protection laws I’m not sure what you’re suggesting. Of course anyone selling you anything must comply with these laws but that’s not to say they have to offer you a good or service at the absolutely lowest cost. They will offer it to you at a cost the market is willing to pay. And if you aren’t willing to shop around then presumably you’re willing to accept a higher price (maybe for the convenience and saving time)?
The concept of haggling isn’t 30 years old.

Wait so let me get this straight. A man steals a necklace, legs it, gets chased down and stopped by the bus driver, then returns to the bus to… shake hands? Wut? Is this the fucking playground?
