About 60% of UK households have pets but 84% of vet practices have no information about pricing - no wonder costs are soaring

I hate how, over the last 30 years, the burden for people to not be ripped off by companies has shifted to the individual. Why must I use my limited free time and mental capacity to shop around for car insurance, contents insurance, buildings insurance, rail travel, energy suppliers and now vets? To hell with ‘free market capitalism’.

Hundred percent agree apart from the fact that it’s only been there last 30 years. It has always been the case but now is on a quicker scale with technology and the complete surrender to international companies (mainly American where consumer rights do not exist). Government responses are there (and we have much more protection here than most of the world) but they are still slow to respond so more people are caught before they can respond.

We need some way to have preventative measures, a change in attitude from the “business community” and actual repercussions.

First though, we need to stop buying from / using Amazon, Meta, Google, etc.

These came for a reason and after people were fucked over:

Aside from complying with consumer protection laws I’m not sure what you’re suggesting. Of course anyone selling you anything must comply with these laws but that’s not to say they have to offer you a good or service at the absolutely lowest cost. They will offer it to you at a cost the market is willing to pay. And if you aren’t willing to shop around then presumably you’re willing to accept a higher price (maybe for the convenience and saving time)?

The concept of haggling isn’t 30 years old.
