The thing is that tiktok isn’t parenting children, its exposing them to content which is detrimental to their mental health and is often very addictive and can be very isolating.

I have to ask, how do you parent your children, (especially older ones/ teenagers) without invading their privacy, especially if they’re already stuck in a harmful echo chamber, whilst still trying to bolster their independence?

It seems to me that you can have conversations and hope that your kid doesn’t go down the wrong route, but thats a lot harder if there are legitimate bad and indifferent actors pushing harmful content on these platforms.

Surely these platforms have a duty of responsibility as a content provoder in the same way I wouldn’t expect Cbeebies to be showing Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

My friend, in the UK you can literally buy Panadol both with and without codiene over the counter at a pharmacy

They have said multiple times they use the without for the most part, which is just paracetamol (acetaminophen).

The UK and elsewhere don’t have the same problem with opiates as the US does.

It’s not an offense to drive on medications unless it impares you, in effect giving the police reason to stop you from driving if impaired by it and legal means to prosecute you if you cause harm due to the imparement.

That also means I could drive whilst high from my cannabis prescription if there was no imparement.

Aren’t we on this form of social media because we inherently disagree how larger forms (X, FB) are ran and who runs them?

I don’t necessarily agree with the implementation, but I can definitely see why a reduction in people using those social media could be a net positive for the country.

Though no disagreement about a 11% increase being shocking, and thats despite lifting the two child benefit cap!

My neighbor Nick, he was a long haired Jesus-esque hippy who ran forest schools for inner city kids who didn’t do great in classrooms.

He also managed the forest in one of the areas thought to be an inspiration for Tolkien.

He taught me to whittle, about having a greater respect for nature. His partner ran a potions club (during the height of Harry Potter popularity), which was mostly identifying and collecting herbs and plants to make balms, syrups and creams for our parents.

He and my dad built me a playhouse on stilts (like 7 foot high, so we could still store things under it)

For a couple of my birthdays he did a forest schools type thing where we would go out to the woods, build dens, forage food, start a campfire using a bow drills etc

One of the birthdays, he’d brought a fishing rod along; the plan was to catch some invasive rainbow trout. After about 10 minutes we here “Oh bloody hell” and turn around to see he’d hooked a huge native brown trout, which we manage to get back into the water. He tries again and this time only manages to hook a tiny thing as small as my hand, luckily my mum was ready the camera this time!
