To me it took a while to settle for a better instance (fhmy, then db0, then lemmynsfw, then cafe and I was happy-ish there, still have my account I think) and ended up leaving lemmy for piefed.
Creating an account is easy, being ready to abandon your account while looking for the right instance is hard and even then I still struggle to find anything interesting.

I think it wasn’t a thing because it was about keeping devices practical and portable… But that ship already sailed and sinked so I’d be up for something bulky but practical or just going back to numerical pad with letters.
When OBS’ hotkeys work without having to focus that window (on kde), when there’s a music player with an UI like MusicBee (love the file explorer because I have my own organization) and updates don’t break for who knows why preventing future updates and forcing me to format again (looking at you Fedora and Cachy), then I will fully move to linux.
Oh and when I can install flatpaks wherever I want because I like having some things as portable (like Dolphin emulator).

Basically the ml owners are the lemmy mods who also own the grad instance.
They are terrible people and it got this far because lemmy was the alternative to reddit that wasn’t filled with racism, transphobes and incels, so people with good intentions stuck and cheered for lemmy to develop while they hosted their own instances with their own rules so at least they didn’t have to tolerate the lemmy devs, hexbear and their trolls too much.
By this point there is kbin (or mbin? i keep forgetting) and piefed, there’s no need to support lemmy in anyway anymore, hence why there are more and more instances defederating from ml altough some still federate with them like dbzer0 (but they also federate with hexbear).
The next step should be hosts migrating to piefed or kbin and app devs dropping lemmy support, the first one is already happening in some instances, the later one not yet.
These kinds of comments are how I know lemmy users know nothing about my country but must support the populist goverment masking as a leftist.
