I think machine learning has a vast potential in this area, specifically things like running iterative tests in a laboratory, or parsing very large data sets. But a fuckin LLM is not the solution. It makes a nice translation layer, so I don’t need to speak and understand bleep bloop and can tell it what I want in plain language. But after that LLM seems useless to me outside of fancy search uses. It’s should be the initial processing layer to figure out what type of actual AI (ML) to utilize to accomplish the task. I just want an automator that I can direct in plain language, why is that not what’s happening? I know that I don’t know enough to have an opinion but I do anyway!

That’s good that you’re close. My folks are a 5 hour drive so not the end of the earth but not frequent visits. Trying to convince my father to move up where I’m at when he’s sick of the suburbs, but his mom is 94 and still kicking, driving, playing cards with the biddies, and he wants to stick around for her.

Kinda jealous that you’re 18 with a 36 year old father. My old man is one of my best friends, but he is 65 and starting to show it. Climbing trips, skiing, sparring, all things we still do but only occasionally now. Be grateful for your parents youth, especially if they managed to raise a healthy, financially stable family. Stock dry food, clean water, first aid supplies. Buy a ham and learn how to remove a bullet, then learn to suture the wound. Make friends, develop trust, form networks. Maybe learn how to use a real radio, that will be more useful than a basement full of 5.56.
