Comic Strips@lemmy.world•Goodbye, Dolly! [Joe Flanders Comics]English
11·6 days agoThe only person you will hear that from is turnip.
I do wish she had been more outspoken, but her actions spoke loud enough. Dolly has always a force for good and compassion, and the things she supported were incompatible with the hate that so many politicians dedicate themselves to.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What it something a parent did that damaged your relationship with them forever with no recovery.English
17·6 days agoMine has turned every conversation into a political fight and now refuses to speak with me unless I agree with their prejudices and medical quackery.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Do you ever reminisce about an old phone you had in the past?English
2·11 days agoI miss my Nokia 8210. I had a case for it that slid open like the one at the start of the matrix. Dropped it in a puddle one night, pulled it out the next morning, dried it off and it kept working just fine. Had no waterproof rating.
I waded into a pool with my supposedly waterproof iPhone in my pocket by accident and it immediately died.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Dead YT channels that you stay subscribed to and visit every now and then?English
2·12 days agoAllen Pan still puts out something amusing once in a while.
I miss the days of 3 minutes of insanity. Now every video is 25 minutes, and it’s all personality driven. It’s turned into regular TV.
We need a classic YouTube type site back again where people share shit for the fun of sharing. Monetization killed the platform.

Technology@lemmy.world•80% of developers find AI coding more addictive than helpfulEnglish
71·12 days agoWell said.
Ultimately it’s a capitalism problem, it makes the value proposition drift towards addiction in every single case.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Dead YT channels that you stay subscribed to and visit every now and then?English
1·12 days agoI don’t know, I think the destructive potential makes up for any lack of imagination. StyroPyro is hands down my favorite YouTuber.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Dead YT channels that you stay subscribed to and visit every now and then?English
3·12 days agoMan what an incredible trip that channel was.
Back in the day there was a whole slew of crackpots (in the best way). There was another who took the washing machine crown from PhotonicInduction, went by the name Aussie50. Used to love his content but he very sadly passed away quite some time ago (I won’t go into details out of respect).
These days the crazy backyard scientist vibe on YouTube has nearly dried up. So glad we still have StyroPyro.

Technology@lemmy.world•New AirPods leak reveals built-in cameras and Visual IntelligenceEnglish
241·14 days agoI’m already kicking myself for buying into them in the first place. Fuck cameras, I’m going back to wired headphones. My $20 IEMs sound better than my AirPod pros, without all the fancy over processing.

Technology@lemmy.world•Young people increasingly don't trust AI - or the billionaires that keep telling us we should all love AI, survey findsEnglish
2·18 days agoI don’t know man, I’m a fairly old person and I’m constantly surrounded by people who seem unable to think without it.
What drives me up a fucking wall these days is how people will use AI to make a more “professional” message, then due to it’s verbosity it needs an AI to summarize on the receiving end.

Technology@lemmy.world•Wikimedia Foundation refuses voluntary union recognition, hires union-busting law firmEnglish
341·1 month agoYet more evidence for my “never trust a self described libertarian” stance. Hasn’t failed me yet.
I felt the same way until my wife talked me into one. We use it almost every day now (it’s great for veggies, so much faster than my convection oven). I bought a cheapish one and am now regretting it since it’s broken and become uncleanably messy. So this is a well timed thread, since I’m looking for a new one.

Technology@lemmy.world•Ford CEO tells employees Chinese automakers could enter U.S. market in next decadeEnglish
1·1 month agoBecause they have invested heavily into automation. A couple years ago the ford ceo went over there and came back terrified. He didn’t think it here was any way that american companies had a chance of competing.

World News@lemmy.world•Anthropic says its AI models hacked 3 organizations during testingEnglish
7·1 month agoI’m convinced this is deliberate. We are not facing a skynet situation, AI is not going rogue. This is shitty security during user initiated testing that they did not fully understand.
They want us to think that AGI is around the corner and so publicizing these hacks is doing that work in the uninformed public’s mind. I’ve had to explain to several people the reality of these attacks, but even now, watching the news, they are trying to scare us with made up stories of out of control AI.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•The offer to pay more for the same finally pushed me to cancel Apple Music. What is a good alternative that's not loaded with ads?English
31·1 month agoI mean, can always rip them to flak as well if you are worried about quality. Even still, a good high bitrate mp3 sounds perfect to me so I still use it too.
Working on reorganizing my old music collection to try to de-apple. It’s a bigger pain in the ass than I expected, and I’m missing so much that I’ve added via subscription. Gotta do it though, I’m sick of paying subscriptions for everything.

World News@lemmy.world•American-style tipping system is gaining ground in the NetherlandsEnglish
40·2 months agoI used to be a good tipper. I still am for genuine service, but the default “tip every transaction” has pissed me off enough that unless you personally handled my food, or performed a service for me, I instantly stab 0.
I was a a baseball game the other weekend, they had a self service kiosk for bottles of soda, a glorified vending machine. It had a default 18% tip added to the transaction that I had to drill into a menu to zero out. Fucking bonkers, not a human in sight, just a couple of sensors and a credit card terminal.
Tip culture has gotten way out of control since Covid, I’m refusing to participate anymore.

Technology@lemmy.world•The open-source, DRM-free Open Printer shows off a working prototypeEnglish
2·2 months agoNo, I think I can downgrade it, I need to find an older version of the firmware as they don’t have it available anymore. I think I need a 2024 version.
I do have auto updates turned off, I should just block it at the router.

Yes, they are entirely different domains. Thats like saying if someone painted a very beautiful picture, with effort and detail. Then claimed authorship over stories written about the subject.
Inspiration is a real thing, and should be lauded, but it still takes skill and an eye for art to render a scene. When someone gets a tattoo, do they usually claim they were the artist, should I? I have an extremely detailed idea for one I’d like to get, colors picked out, subject, poses, etc. but I am not skilled enough to render it, nor put it on my body. I’ve got a great design, but no art.
