    Explanation: The Holy Roman Empire was a medieval-to-early-modern polity centered in modern day Germany.

    Despite the name, it’s often observed that it was not particularly Holy - up to and including getting into disputes with the Pope, despite being a Catholic polity - that it was not Roman, being a German-dominated polity, and that it was not much of an Empire, since it was more a collection of princely states who ignored the Emperor whom they elected whenever it suited them.
