(Brazil Elections)
Vote counting has started.
Edit: Lula won with 51,7%. See you all at the next US intervention.
Tel Aviv upset
Speaking of election season…
Serbian voters go absolutely wild for the opportunity to vote.
I’m out of the loop on the Serbian elections. I’ll read on that later.
Even tho I doubt that elections matter, I am still happy for Brazil. I always have the feeling that whoever wins any election ends up being the most hostile to socialism and minorities, but I was fortunately wrong here.
A Brazilian unfollowed me on Instragram after I shared on my story that I support Lula lol

BRICS is saved
Holy shit, he won
I have a bad feeling about the protests and elections in Serbia. Am I right and is it a colour revolution or it is valid?
I’m not sure that the protests are a colour revolution solely because the protesters reject the independence of Kosovo. America would never let a puppet movement deride the separatist movement the West has spent decades trying to get off the ground.
From my very little knowledge and research, likely its another color revolution but the outgoing party is not something to be mourned. They were pro-eu but also “maybe we shouldn’t completely cut Russia off.” So if it is a color coup its just the EU shooting itself in the leg and undermining the idea of “democracy.”
I’m afraid we can only wait and see.
Lula better lock shit down over the next few years.

Oh no my protests turned violent! Violence is never the answer!
Except when it is the organized violence by the state in the form of police repression, poverty, denied healthcare, etc.
Or when it happens in countries whose governments we are trying to topple.
Or when we steal children and traffick them to be abused later.

That is beautiful.
New here! And already this community feels so much nicer than lemmy.ml, I might stick around here a lot more.
Welcome comrade!
There are less liberals here… but that cozy feeling means we are failing to agitate among the masses… and that is the 7th type of liberalism.
I feel like in person agitation is far more effective than online. I’m not sure if people are actually being convinced of marxism in lemmy.ml
I could be very wrong though.
I was mostly just making a joke but my anticommunist programing was broken by online agitation.
Same for me I suppose.
I think both are relevant but we need a presence IRL
Right now, especially with people trying to avoid social media, it’s a huge oversight.
Lemmygrad is more like a nice place to hang out when on the toilet, infosharing or circlejerk. Online generally won’t agitate any masses, for that we gotta leave the house.
The only time being here online is contra productive is, if it is impeding real life and organizing efforts.
Why are you a fruit? How does a fruit become sentient?
That’s a CIA classified document I’m not authorized to release.
Lemme guess:
The Flying Dutchman turned you into fruit
I like you on pizza :)
Yay, newcomer
I talked to my mother recently. I told her I wouldn’t be a Jehovah’s Witness anymore. It wasn’t so bad. It was probably the most important conversation I ever had in my life.
At some point she mentioned that I have an “overdeveloped sense of justice” (??) because (I think) I talk a lot about how the system affects individuals. Communist education is working, I suppose lol
“overdeveloped sense of justice”
I think that’s called empathy for other people.
hell yea
It’s an actual concept used to justified lack of empathy. Closest I can compare it to is how your typical reactionary would variably feel some form of disgust or feel that the ideal is childish. An overdeveloped sense of justice, an over-active empathy, a social justice warrior; all of these things seen as “juvenile” as it seems the correct way to succeed in this world and this society is to be sociopathic. Now repeat that on a generational level magnified thousandfold throughout society.
When studying Autistic folks, it is often referred to as “justice sensitivity” lol
I guess, by that, allistics mean that we are “over-sensitive” to the idea that certain people have or may get away with not just crime but absolutely horrific behavior while leaving the victims and communities scarred or forced to be confronted with acute suffering while some rich lawyer bails them out of jail or at least death row because “look, it was a complicated time and the emotions and tensions were high during such-and-such murder or similarly terrible act and, look, my client is clearly being framed in a highly politicized case and gas incurred terrible depression and depravation while in prison” or some such similar nonsense.
(I was thinking about this when reading about the court proceedings regarding Sam Altman and the sexual abuse charges by his sister)
But honestly, having a “sense of justice” is arguably even more underrated or maligned than being empathetic.
I mean, in pop culture, I have noticed that a lot of characters that get portrayed as having a particular sense of “justice sensitivity” are also portrayed as “rigid” or even a bit dumb or perhaps like some sort of chump or unassuming dullard (see: Syril Karn). In a Syril’s case, the guy literally had “SpongeBob SquarePants syndrome” and seemed in denial that the Imperial government could possibly just brazenly blockade and then strip apart a planet that was relatively well-known and had a seat in the Imperial Senate all while starting it off with a false flag attack and then attacking every person in sight throughout the capital city of Ghor. In fact, his whole arc begins with him feeling the need to avenge two drunk cops because, as far as he’s concerned, it’s"wrong" to just kill or murder people of the law who nobody seems to give a damn about while everybody around him just coasts through their job like nothing’s amiss (I don’t believe he or his friend in the first season ever really found out or knew about the altercation between the two pigs and Cass which, if I am remembering correctly, is a detail that I rather love).
All this to say:
While I liked Syril’s character and arc as well as both seasons of Andor in general, Syril Karn’s character is definitely kinda archetypical at this point and comes with a lot of tropes attached to him that can be found in a lot of story-telling in Hollywood and other media in the United States and elsewhere past and present. I think tropes and archetypes are not necessarily bad writing and can be done right. That’s not necessarily what I find interesting.
I think it’s the idea that there aren’t many people I know that would question or interrogate the idea that a particularly “justice-minded person = a man of law and order = a goon with blind obedience to authoritarian or fascist tyranny.”
It’s almost as if it’s treated not as a trope or the author or writer’s point of view… but as a totally normal, totally obvious fact of life that such people are just a bunch of bootlickers.
Idk, I find that very interesting, ngl…
One hell of an explanation. I feel better now that I know that “justice sensitivity” in neurodiverse folks is a thing. There are a lot of things you don’t learn when you are treated as neurotypical your whole life, while likely being autistic. (More like quite likely, I got a 159 on the RAADS-R, but I think there are literally 0 ways of getting diagnosed where I live, and if there are, there is no way in hell I can afford them.)
I guess I should get to watching Andor then.
Andor is great and I liked the characters in the series as well (Cassian, Luthien, Syril, etc.).
Honestly, the tropiness of media nowadays doesn’t necessarily stop it from being good or at least well-executed.
“overdeveloped sense of justice”
imagine saying this with your full chest and not seeing anything wrong with it 💀
Kinda sounds like a lot of 4channers ahahhaha
Good on you for leaving the JW cult.
thanks
JW parents here too, stopped believing in that stuff ever since I was around 12 years old.
Oh, you are lucky then. Took me until adulthood to start to doubt this stuff.
Different for a lot of people and no shame in it; I wish people who never had to deal with such abusive environments would stop reacting and judging without knowing anything about the subject or someone else’s lived experience here.
True. I also realized I shouldn’t have said that. I don’t how Large Cane Toad’s life or if trauma was involved. Writing “you are lucky” was very tactless.
Oh, thank you, I wasn’t necessarily trying to reprimand or shame you, it’s just that people, especially boomers and GenXers have a tendency to do this thing where, if someone suffered and they learn it informs their actions, they do the whole “Well, lol, I suffered twice and learned faster than you before your age, what are you doing, bro?” or some other nonsensical bile. Honestly, even Millennials do this a lot, I have noticed lately.
I wasn’t saying that that was what you were doing.
Just to be clear here haha 😅
Oh it’s okay. no problems
thnx for understanding :)
A good friend of mine is a jw too. She always likes the anti militarism agitation I am posting
that’s awesome.
anti militarism agitation I am posting
I would love to see this
Just some sharepicks for stuff from the org I’m active in. Id doxx myself if I showed you, but I have plenty original gdr Pins if yoh want to see This instead.
oh I see. Yeah, I would love to see the pins instead

Here are some of the pins I have. The other ones I have are on some of my clothes.
Nice
She certainly seems like an… sjw ;)
Ba dum-tss!
…I’ll see myself out ;_;
She didn’t disown you all at once? That’s pretty good. My extended family half adopted an ex-JW because her whole family completely cut her off from even speaking to them. It was mostly a lateral move because my family are evangelical Christians but she figured it out after about a year and stopped hanging out with my family too.
She didn’t. I was surprised too.
Somebody called the h3h3 drama Klein/11 and I’m on oxygen right now

I guess the Israelis wouldn’t be dancing over these towers.
“The bourgeoisie of the whole world, which looks complacently upon the wholesale massacre after the battle, is convulsed by horror at the desecration of brick and mortar!” ― Karl Marx, The Civil War in France
Kind of a very relevant quote.

Tried to make that xi-peel emoji but with Traoré and Sankara. It’s kind of hard to get the effect of peeling paper.
This looks like Sankara is hiding behind a Traore cardboard cut out which is a bit funnier I think.
I can’t unsee that now lol
Diagonal Traore should be a meme :D
