Essentially, leftists should like guns. Guns are the only real tool they have to bite back. Gun control typically believed in are better screenings, especially for mental health issues in a person that makes them a danger to themselves or others. Safety courses and handling courses. It’s wide as well but when it comes down to it, it’s typically been neo-liberals and liberals who call for heavier, more restrictive gun control or outright bans.

Most leftists wouldn’t want too much restriction because such restrictions have been historically made to keep arms out of the hands of people of color. In fact, the reason California is so restrictive is it’s typically neo-liberally ran, and the Mulford Act that was passed when Black Panthers were patrolling their neighborhood armed to ward away racist police. Our wonderful racist shitbag actor Reagan signed that into law and it was near unanimous voting on the state level.

Essentially you’ll find leftists more open to gun ownership but more emphasis on safety and care of such ownership. Liberals and neo-liberals have been the ones pushing for a general disarmament of the USA with certain sections of the right wanting it to remove the power to defend oneself from state sanctioned violence. Namely in marginalized and vulnerable communities.
