I get a (metaphorical) headache every time I watch a certain group of people on youtube. People like GamersNexus, Louis Rossmann and Spectresoundstudios. What makes them so infuriating to watch is their textbook reactionary takes. They go on an on about consumer rights and the market and “oh this company did something bad, they should be taxed!”, and the whole “corporatism” schtick. The type of petit bourgeois that Lenin talks about in Imperialism. I wish I could just completely stop hearing the words consumer or “consumer market”. It demotes people purchasing commodities into mindless zombies, who’s only purpose is CONSOOM. I guess that is a part of capitalism, after all.
I feel you. “Consumer” is such a dehumanizing label and tends to be used in the service of passing off responsibility from the exploiting classes to the individual choices of people who pay for things, i.e. it tends to be used to shift blame from organized capital to the isolated worker.
I think Louis Rossmann is useful for anti-reformist propaganda. Showing how hard he works for such basic reforms and accomplishing so little. Gamers Nexus became tiring to listen to though.
I didn’t think of that angle. But you could say I was partially disillusioned by his efforts. But the petit bourgeois brainworms still persist.
They persist, but they might help steer people leftward.
I think I started to move leftwards due to videos from people like Adam Something or BritMonkey, who are very reactionary but still raise important points.
Unfortunately, the lib-to-commie pipeline is pretty weak, so I dunno how Louis fits on that.
Summed up my thoughts perfectly. I remember a GN video from a bit ago covering a really small GPU maker in the us, just struck me as odd they promoted it both because it would be better to show the advances China is making across the whole supply chain, and the video was more of the “corporatism” thing you mentioned.
To add: Third guy does the whole scummy three thumbnails with three titles thing. Loves his clickbait. And making my linux-using blood boil. If you’re a producer, Ubuntu studio exists for a reason. ZorinOS is not very good for that job. But I shouldn’t even be getting mad, he’s complaining about the wrong things, and hate tends to be wildly popular on the internet.
