I thought EU would use its own digital payment, like those used in Asia and Brazil. 🤔

    Why would anyone use this?

    There are lots of reasons:

    1. Because people don’t know tech and use default apps or anything that is big in their app store (so >90% of people)
    2. Because people don’t care about privacy/big tech and use the most convenient way for them
    3. Because other companies make you use it by not functioning without it. (Probably like Sparkasse which is mentioned in the article)

Also i think the idea behind it is actually good.

Sparkasse customers will be able to confirm their age through Google Wallet without having to share details like their name, address or birth date.

So you can verify your age without giving out your personal information to a third party. Ofc Google has your private information which is a deal breaker i guess.

I would expect that from any “digital ID” (if it is more than a PDF scan) as one of the basic features.
