Madison’s decision to drag the US into the War of 1812 was entirely avoidable and based on his own pro-French policies (and the French had not particularly abused the US less in the issue of privateering and blockading). Madison was publicly of the common, paternalistic view towards Native Americans, but privately regarded them as inferior and unsalvageable.
