Not the same - the Strait of Hormuz includes international waters, which are also being blocked by Iran.
That being said, it’s absolutely the strategically smart decision, and I don’t blame Iran for it. It’s just not a 1-1 to Egypt controlling a waterway that is 100% completely inside their borders. It just has more in common with a blockade than a simple denial of access to territorial waters.
