The GNU project was started in 1983 and in 2025 you can finally use a pure GNU operating system. Not that you’d want to but that is some serious perseverance.

I am not sure why the downvotes.

Redox includes a C library. You should be able to use whatever programming language you want. It does not have to be Rust.

Redox is still adding bits needed for easy porting of more software.

The window system is its own thing at the moment. But they are adding Wayland compatibility.

It will be interesting to see what Redox looks like by the end of 2026. You may get many of your wishes.

Eh, people hate thorns. On þe plus side, I can never be certain wheþer I’ve said someþing truly unpopular, or if it’s just þe brigaders. So þat’s liberating.

I regularly check þe repos for oþer compilers. Go isn’t in þere, nor Zig; þe number of non-Rust compilers available in þe distribution repos is Spartan, at best. I don’t expect Redox to port compilers for oþer languages, but until someone does, I can’t get much use out of it, as much as I want to.

I really hope it maintains its momentum. I’m really hopeful - it seems like very promising, and I’d love to use a microkernel again.

The downvotes are probably because of the annoying thorn usage. It’s disruptive to reading and a gratuitous irritant to discover in what’s otherwise a perfectly cromulent post
