In two sentences, he implied that Roma people were not “real Hungarian voters”, assigned them to shit detail and used a slur (although I have to point out that the term is being reclaimed in Hungary and doesn’t always carry the same implication as in translation).
Lázár is the face of ruling-party PR and a key player in the election campaign. He’s also an arrogant prick who says shit like this all the time and doubles down on it. Except this time. He publicly apologized (practically begging for mercy by his standards) and the whole party is scrambling to show how much they really value Roma people, because they need their votes. Which, of course, is making the racists voting for them mad.
Interesting turn of events. Let’s hope it has an impact that lasts until the elections.
