Comic Strips@lemmy.world•Introverts vs Extroverts [Sarah’s Scribbles]
2·2 days agoThat might have been a comment more about OTTERS specifically than extroverts. They are, after all, carnivores; the males are also inter-species rapist necrophiles.

4·2 days agoNo, it’s still profitable by sales, but not profitable by politically-motivated IRS investigations and anti-trust enforcement and arbitrary tarrifs. I don’t think the consequences of a fully politicized regulatory system has come into view yet.
3D movies of the past were filmed fixed stereoscopic; not sure why they’re referring to 3D films as “faked”.
Whatever the case, 3D films in VR are a real experience, much better than 3D in the theaters.
Legit some Christians think Heaven will be Heaven because they will be enjoying watching the eternal torment of the sinners below.

Comic Strips@lemmy.world•Stop telling me AI is the future [Still Vreni]
92·5 days agoMutually Asssured Destruction is an easily technolngically achievable goal, that’s why we don’t see much development past that point. You only need to exterminate an enemy’s population once.
The lesson learned by the world, at this point, is that nukes are the only way to guarantee your country isn’t invaded and that agreeing to unilateral nuclear disamament is downright idiotic. Expect more countries gettng nukes this century.

12·7 days agoGuess it sort of works if your life doesn’t involve a lot of suffering, kind of a shit philosophy otherwise. Don’t read Camus without reading Beauvoir.
I’ve always worked with people that have literal seizures if they haven’t already heard a song at least seventeen thousand times before. This might cause severe cerebral hemorraging.
Mods watching this one closely for species-level slurs.
Having a good family and social circle is basically the most important part of being ready to have kids
Well, bad news for you there, too: since we’re all busy working and commuting and moving states for jobs and our third places are disappearing for various reasons, because our connections have moved globally online instead of locally offline, we are all further away from our families of origin and have smaller social circles to help support our physical lives.
This is kind of a weird conversation to be having in English in a room of probably 50% non-native English speakers.

3·10 days agoThe article text doesn’t mention Israel as an actor at all–only a victim.
Are we having a miscommunication of some kind? Are we reading the same article? Are you AI? Disregard this comment.

6·10 days agoI’m honestly not sure what you’re saying. The article is doing exactly what you say it isn’t doing–given the state-based definition of “terrorist,” and I’m not assuming the reader personally knows anything.
I also don’t see that you are defending the omission of Israel’s invasion.
Beware of choosing arbitrary distinctions that support what you already believe. Here, I see people who support Israel make a distinction between state and non-state actors because it cloaks state violence and decontextualizes (and implicitly condemns as unjustified) non-state violence, while at the same time giving the reader LESS information and a skewed view–the opposite of the goal of true journalism.
For instance, I saw a great video on music theory and how some white supremacists in the West decided that contrapuntal harmony (or some shit) was the PINNACLE of intelligence. Why? Is it just a coincidence that Western Classical music does very well relative to other music in the world? Rhythmically, Indian music mops the floor with Bach. Obviously, a chauvinist Indian would pick whatever Indian music does uniquely well as the pinnacle of musical evolution.

211·10 days agoI´m talking about the difference between journalism and propaganda; you don´t think it’s a little weird to come away from an article like this knowing Hezabollah is a terrorist organization according to Germany, the US, and several Sunni Arab states, but not that their country is currently being invaded with tanks?

401·10 days agoIf your goal is informing your readers, the fact that Israel is invading Lebannon is easily as important as a comically detailed explanation of how terroristy Hezbollah is.
If your goal is sanctioning violence done by state actors–a common feature of corporate media–you´d do what they did here.

752·10 days agoThe footage was published about a week ago by Hezbollah, a Lebanon-based pro-Iranian militia, which Germany, the US and several Sunni Arab states have classified as a terrorist organization.
And where’s the parenthetical comma for Israel?
Israel, the arpartheid Jewish ethnostate, has been globally condemned for its violation of human rights and massive bombings with civilian casualties, is currently invading Lebannon in an effort to expand its territory.

What you’re hoping for is that governments go back to protecting people instead of being used by the rich to transfer wealth from the citizenry.
Everyone knows gambling has zero social benefit and does a lot of harm. But none of that matters because you can show up to a few congressmen with a few thousand dollars and they’ll do what you tell them, and no other congress critters will get in their way because every other congresscritter wants support for their grifts.
Government is working hard to find a million ways to redistribute wealth upward. Public advertising of gambling is just one more sign of corruption.
