He’s always been more than a little petite bourgeoisie. Among all his spats with the city of New York, I’m sure you can find something where he was at fault, but we generally only get his side of things. Still, I think he’s been mostly a good advocate. FUTO is not the right place to do that.

There’s a complication for Trump. He hates Maduro. The US in general (by which I mean administrations of both major political parties) wants him out. Machado is the major candidate of the opposition to Maduro. She also would give away Venezuela’s oil reserves, which the US definitely wants.

So the Nobel committee just awarded the prize to someone who 1) is hardly a voice for peace, and 2) Trump generally needs to support. Now, #2 is based on Trump not being a shortsighted idiot, and we all know how that works out.

IIRC, this is because gcc optimizes goto very well, or at least it did back in the day. It also is a genuinely workable solution for error handling in C.

Consider if you need to setup three things, do something with them, and then tear them down in reverse order. If there’s an error on the second thing, you want to jump right to the part where you tear down the first thing. Using goto tends to make cleaner code for that in C compared to, say, nested conditionals.

My company used to do SAFe, which is supposed to be “scalable agile”. By “scalable”, they mean you take up half a sprint every quarter to do a big waterfall plan.

Too many in management believed their jobs depended on keeping this system. We slowly whittled them away until we stopped doing it entirely. Whatever you might think about “Extreme Programming” or “Agile” being primarily a way to sell books and overpriced training seminars, SAFe is only that. It has no other purpose.

The problem this time around is that companies think junior developers can be replaced with AI. This is delusion. Some think they can replace senior developers with AI. This is LSD heroic dose delusion.

These delusions will work themselves out in a few years, after a very painful burst bubble, but right now it means junior developers aren’t getting hired. In 10 years, there will be a shortage of senior developers because all the missing juniors now will translate into missing seniors then.
