  • I think more know than you may think, but they’re quite afraid of losing their jobs since the occurrences of such losses seem much more widely reported upon by the oligarch-owned popular media than the successes. It may technically be against the law, but the corporations know how to skirt those rules, and the politicians in their pockets let them. The average Joe doesn’t feel the system will have their back, and their own co-workers aren’t even reliable enough to risk striking and losing the ability to support one’s family.

  • …the deal mainly benefits workers in the company’s memory chip division, which has seen profits soar due to the colossal investments globally in AI. Some of those workers are set to receive bonuses of around $416,000 this year. Workers in Samsung’s other chip units will receive less but still substantial bonuses, while employees in its consumer electronics divisions are set to receive very little by comparison.

Hardly the universal gain you’re implying. Further:

It also remains to be seen if a court will grant a Samsung union representing consumer electronics workers their request to block the vote. They were excluded from the vote after their union left the negotiating team due to disagreements. That could possibly lead to a new vote, though the deal appears to have far more backers than detractors.

  • Either way, you’re still actually communicating with someone in your modern day example so I don’t see how that applies.

Talking to the wall vs a picture? I doubt it would make a difference to me personally, but I know I can be very matter-of-fact in how I look at things so my perspective might be different than most. Still seems like the improvement would be extremely minimal.

    Thanks for the explanations nonetheless.

  • Paris police are examining more than 100 allegations of mistreatment, physical violence and rape of children as young as three by school monitors during lunch breaks, nap times and after-school activities, prosecutors have confirmed.

“We have investigations under way in 84 preschools, about 20 primary schools and about 10 daycare centres,” said Paris’s top prosecutor, Laure Beccuau. Lawyers said the investigations included the alleged rape of children as young as three and four years old.

Parents’ groups said they had fought for years for allegations to be taken seriously. They said failures in the recruitment process and checking of school monitors had allowed abuse to continue.

HOLY SHEET!!! How TF is something that serious allowed to grow into that large of a problem?!? Seems like a LOT more people than just the currently accused need to be investigated - likely including the investigators themselves.
