Had a coworker tonight come over and brag about how there was a deal made for allowing a military base and paying for mineral rights. So we burned the last of our goodwill with the world to get what we already had and his supporters are eating it up.

I agree that it’s multiple interests aligning, but I wouldn’t discount Trump wanting it for himself as well. The man puts his name on everything, being able to add a new state as well as a massive chunk of land would be huge to a narcissist like that. I think the other sides you mentioned are playing off of that desire to convince him it is somehow justified.
