I think it’s more that they have a tenuous grasp on their own sexuality, and anything that makes them question (or realize that it CAN be a question) shakes their very concept of self. They define themselves by their sexuality and having that foundational part of themselves potentially called into question terrifies them.

Too many people are afraid of the fact that you can change. And that applies to all parts of yourself.

There’s only one point in life when it’s too late to change and that’s when you’re dead.

If you’re familiar with Von Neumann Probes I’ve got another one I always recommend, it’s a bit longer but also fire. “Lungfish” by David Brin

“Answer” by Fredric Brown. I dug through my bookmarks of short stories to find it because I knew I read it before as well. (For those curious, it’s like a 1 minute read)

2 more that come to mind are “The Last Question” by Isaac Asimov and “The Nine Billion Names of God” by Arthur C. Clarke. Both great short stories.

Because we basically drive tanks everywhere on roads designed for incredible speed.

So basically our cars are the main culprit making the side issues worse.

The amount of people I see who are the “iPad kids” they constantly scream about is incredibly high

Personally I find it quite easy as well (mid 30s) but not only do I work a physically demanding job I work out (calisthenics) quite consistently.

Not enough people move around enough in novel ways.

I literally know a guy who’s my age that threw his back out wiping his ass.

Yup, I’m in my 30s and generally feel great, unless one of my old injuries jumps to the forefront again.

In general I just make sure to keep moving in creative ways and everything still works. I know people who live that potato life and they’re constantly stiff and hurting.
