Your second point was where my mind immediately went. I have never used AI at work and have no way to use AI at work even if I wanted to, because I don’t use a computer for work. Even if I was a massive AI supporter, I’d still see exactly zero difference at work.

Not really historical yet but any and every Jesse Welles concert I’ve missed so far. I’ve only seen him once so far and regret missing his first show close to me but plan to see him every time he comes nearby going forward, so long as I can afford it. Thankfully he’s not big enough yet for super expensive tickets, when I saw him the tickets were for a very reasonable price. It would be nice if he could go to some smaller cities or towns close by though, I hate big cities.

For classical, I’d absolutely love to see Horowitz performing Rachmaninoff’s 3rd piano concerto (Op. 30) with LSO/Coates in 1930. It’s my favourite recording of my favourite classical piece of music, but the audio quality is awful. Rachmaninoff was actually a friend of Horowitz and attended the show, and said that performance was the closest he had heard to what he had in his head when writing the piece. It was even closer to his original idea than what Rachmaninoff himself had done, and I believe Rachmaninoff stopped playing it live afterward, saying it had already been perfected and gave Horowitz his personal blessing to perform it on his behalf (not that he needed permission, but it was more symbolic than anything).

isn’t as bad as you might think, at least where I live. Used CD sales are the highest they’ve been in over 20 years. Sure, it’s not like it was at its peak, but it’s coming back in style again. The rest of your comment is definitely true though.

Where are you that plumbers don’t get paid well? At least where I live, plumbing is the default “I want to make a lot of money and don’t know what to do with my life” recommendation. Most trades people I know, on average, make more money than most office people I know, on average. Office jobs may have a higher ceiling but that doesn’t necessarily mean most people are making more. Cut out the top and bottom extremes in pay and trades are definitely the better route to decent pay cheques, at least where I live.

They should sell strap pads if they don’t already. I think that would be a good idea and I’d buy a pack for my bag. I’d love to be able to use mine more, but the thin straps with zero padding really isn’t the most comfortable design.

I’ve got a smaller Fjallraven backpack. It’s very well made but I find the straps uncomfortable if it’s pretty well packed. If OP is just carrying around a laptop and a couple small things, it’s a great bag, but if they’re bringing all their books and a large water bottle and all that, I think their shoulders will get tired quickly.

I’m currently using their Daylite Sling as my EDC bag and it’s fantastic. I convinced my dad to get a 40L backpack from them and he’s been extremely happy with it. Everyone else I’ve known who’s had a bag from them has raved about how good it is.

Contigo are pretty good plastic ones that look a bit nicer. If you want metal, I have a few from Stanley that are great at keeping stuff iced for literal days, but they’ll obviously be heavier. They’re also more expensive too.

I don’t have answers for all categories, but the ones I have experience with:

• Pens - I’ve been very happy with my Parker Jotter the last maybe 5-6 years or so. I’ve got lots of different pens but this is the one I always go back to, and it’s still like new. Runs smooth, durable, super satisfying click, doesn’t dry out
• Ruler - basically any metal ruler without fancy features (no folding etc) that could break, and with etched markings rather than printed that could fade over time. You could probably get a cheap one at Walmart or something that satisfies this
• Water bottle - Nalgene, if you’re okay with plastic
• Backpack - if it’s just for school, Jansport are great. If you want to use it for travel or hiking too, Osprey are the best in my experience but they’re expensive and overkill for just school
• Wallet - Popov Leather have the absolute best leather wallets, belts, watch straps, etc in my opinion. Just find the style you like, they’ve got lots to choose from

Probably forgetting something. The first three are definitely my favourites I have.

Not signatures but I’ve also got pictures meeting some local celebrities too. Specifically, Mark Critch (22 Minutes, Son of a Critch), Allan Hawco (Republic of Doyle, Jack Ryan, Book of Negros), and the cast of Murdoch Mysteries.

I may consider in the future. I’ve subscribed to that community too now. You should make one for the CPL if it doesn’t exist yet.

I honestly didn’t know that community existed until now, but I joined. I’m not usually into soccer though, I just started paying attention maybe a month ago.

It was Canada but since they’re out, I guess Belgium now. I don’t really have any ties to Belgium as a team or country, but they knocked out the US and they make my favourite beer so those are good enough reasons as any I suppose.

This is exactly how I feel too. When I want to listen to a record, it’s because I want to interact with the music. I have a whole process with my record equipment, stuff to mess with etc. Turntable, preamp, EQ, amp, speakers. Each is something I can play with. Records are very physical, I can see them and feel them to understand them. It’s a very interactive medium. I actually enjoy flipping the record. And I don’t care if it doesn’t sound as good, I usually buy cheap used records anyway that have a bit of surface noise. It actually feels warm and nostalgic, I enjoy that. It’s like listening to a live recording from the 30s or something. If I want amazing audio quality I’ll just get it digitally. When I listen to records that’s not what I’m going for, I’m going for the experience. It feels more human, where a CD feels clinical and sterile. That’s not how I want to describe an album, personally.
