  • The fact that this Econ 101 slop video has a paid promotion plus ads I forgot to block says plenty. I question its motives, which seems like rehashing cold war propaganda, as well as your smug above it framing. What do you think this video says? Why, in a material sense, do you think socialism is interesting people in imperialist countries today? I think when you talk about a middle ground, you mean between protecting the privileges we both receive from our born-in positions on the world system, and surviving the failure of capitalism to reproduce itself (it shits the bed every decade or so since 1973; we’re both probably from generations that didn’t get what we were promised)

  • It’s not something I thought/read much about admittedly, very interesting. I had to go before I could finish it so do correct me, but did they spend any time on socialist approaches to passports/travel/freedom of movement? It would be interesting to talk about the "iron curtain’ within the context of what had just been discussed (eg the way in which passports serve to keep certain regions in and out under capitalist’s rule). Or the significance of Yugoslavia for instance opening its borders to western tourists later on. Conclusions on the whole concept would be worthwhile if a bit much for a podcast.

  • Everyone’s still on the gravy train. Agribusiness (Think Tyson Foods, Cargill, JBS, and National Beef, big four) is expanding revenue after colonizing all possible markets by getting the existing customers to buy more. A cottage industry of small/alternative business douchebags (Joe Rogan, Gwyneth Paltrow) can sell other products like supplements or merch while profiting symbiotically with much more developed industries and interests like big beef.

It’s all about that death drive. Since the orientation of this all is just to accumulate, the negative health effects of the buy-what-we-tell-you diet or environmental damages (JBS being a big contributor too Amazon deforestation, and cattle ranching being behind 80% of it) aren’t factored in
