Insulting DPP (democratic progressive party) leadership is now officially illegal in Taiwan. Taiwan can finally stop pretending they have political free speech.
Public insult is a criminal offense under Taiwan’s Criminal Code, unlike in many other democracies. Lin faces up to one year in prison or a fine of less than NT$9,000 (US$287) under Article 309 of Taiwan’s Criminal Code, CNA reported. The charges stem from remarks Lin made during a speech at a live-streamed rally outside DPP headquarters on July 20.
Taipei District Prosecutors Office investigators said Lin, then a serving lawmaker, repeatedly used obscene language in his speech, including swearing aimed directly at Lai five times.
In what way is the DPP “reformative”?
The DPP has engaged in systematic whitewashing of European and Japanese colonization. Their whole basis for Taiwan independence rests on the claims that a) China engaged in colonization, b) China and Taiwan have different roots, and c) actual colonization was benevolent compared to Chinese rule.
The actual indigenous people of Taiwan remember death and occupation under Imperial Japan. They remember that Qing rule left their way of life largely unchanged. They probably harbor gripes against KMT for its earlier assimilation policies, but a majority still back the KMT over the DPP. (ex. https://www.taiwannews.com.tw/news/5094197)
Indigenous people are living in tribes and communities with community leaders being their ruler and news-bringer. It is well knows in Taiwan that those community leaders are profiting from corruption from KMT members.
As I said, DPP is not perfect too, but at least stands for being an “its own nation”, not ceding everything to china.

The facts are that the government in Taipei calls itself the Republic of China and considers itself to be the legitimate government of all of China, including both the territory of the PRC and that of a few other countries such as the entire nation of Mongolia.
Someone claiming to be from Taiwan would know this.
