Brace for another administration of austerity and victim blaming rather than taxing the wealthy.
Surely, it’s the people who are ill, poor and foreign who are to blame for the state of the country, and not the rich sucking up all the money.
As far as I can tell, this is just trying soften the blow and curtail the pushback these policies will inevitably face.
The time to cut funding, if ever, is when things are going great. That is the opposite of how things are now.



Yeah, i agree. You can cut the benefits bill by reducing payments and making lives worse, or you lift people up so they no longer need them. This seems like an attempt at the latter and I hope it works.
People will always need welfare. The article says they giving an £100 million boost to apprenticeship schemes. Nothing about higher wages. The previous government wanted to cut welfare by £5 billion.
This is a bad decision. Everyone is still obsessed with growth. We cannot grow the economy to fix our issues, it doesn’t work like that anymore.
I’m all for lifting people up but forcing people to work by cutting their support does not acheive that.
