After like the 5th website I was using got taken down while I’ve been trying to watch Detective Conan, I might have just been ground down to the point of paying for anime rather than pirating it. I would just buy the DVDs obviously, but at 1,200 episodes, I don’t see myself justifying the price of it!
Something I had never really noticed was just how American-dominated the whole anime streaming service scene is. Not just Crunchyroll, but Tubi, Hulu, Peacock, Sling TV, everything! If you’re interested in buying European, you might find One Piece on BBC iPlayer or something, but we have pretty much nothing dedicated specifically for anime.
But that’s why I’m excited to have discovered Serika, a Dutch anime-specialising streaming service that’s in progress atm! If there are any anime fans in this community, give them some love!
While a DMCA-resistant Debrid service plus Stremio is more affordable than Crunchyroll and more reliable than free streaming sites, competition to Crunchyroll in terms of licensed anime streaming is a good thing.

A debrid service downloads torrented content upon request and stores it for a set amount of time. By connecting the API key of an account from a service to a Stremio plugin, users have access to most content that’s otherwise available on regular subscription services. Popular shows and movies get requested by users often, and are therefore generally available on demand without the need for the service to re-download it.
Some debrid services (such as Real-Debrid) are more likely to make content unavailable due to DMCA requests; some (such as Torbox) are less likely to. If a service starts complying with DMCA requests at a more frequent rate, it’s easy to switch providers.

All that said, if there’s a European competitor to Crunchyroll, it’s good to support them too.
Oh, I should also mention it’ll all be open source coding, so if that doesn’t get Lemmites excited, I don’t know what will!
