South Korean President Lee Jae-myung proposed on Saturday that Pyongyang engage in dialogue to formally end the Korean War, which has technically been ongoing for more than 70 years due to the lack of…
For context, there are only three parties to the Korean War ceasefire.
The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea
The Chinese People’s Volunteers
The United Nations Command
The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea is, well, obvious. Any discussions about the war has to include them and that makes sense.
The Chinese People’s Volunteers was dissolved with no party inheriting their responsibilities. In other words, they are not needed for any discussions about the war.
The United Nations Command is an organisation created by the United Nations at a time when the Soviet Union was not attending the UNSC, and the China seat was held by the KMT. Meaning that the only veto powers present at the time were the United States, their vassal state Taiwan, and the United Kingdom and France. This meant that the United States effectively had command over the United Nations and the United Nations Command is really a front for the United States.
Because of this, the only two parties in the Korean War are quite literally the DPRK and the United States. Nothing south Korea does is relevant or frankly even matters in the context of the war. Despite it being on their turf, they aren’t even a party to the war.

I was about to comment that South Korea doesn’t even exist so how can it propose ending the war. lol
