What’s the point of torturing someone? That sounds very Hollywood

I’m not going to condemn the victims for exacting revenge. I just don’t see how torture is supposed to help society grow, however. Since when has a regime that relied on threats of violence to keep order succeeded?

And how would we even figure out how much torture someone deserves? I know individuals who have ruined the lives of thousands of people, whole families, but I also know which court let that individual live freely and even prosper, I know which members of society benefit from this and don’t give two shits about what happens to those like me. I know hypocrites who try to feed me words of comfort, two faces who pretend they care, while not doing anything to help me advance.

There’s the great man theory, but I think there’s also the horrible men which people put all the blame on, to make themselves feel better. All my life I’ve seen Hitler constantly being mocked and ridiculed and what did that do? idk maybe it would have been worse if not for that, but there’s multiple Genocides going on so imo, not much has been achieved.
