The only thing Putin can do to retain power is make deals with China to betray russians and sell of assets quietly to Chinese control in exchange for China shoring up Putin’s strength against domestic political threats.

This process may already be quite far advanced, I don’t know, but is inevitable as Putin faceplants more and more.
