Sooner than all the other countries that fit more of the requirements that Ukraine does that still aren’t members because they too don’t comply with all the requirements? Isn’t that way more unfair??

Ukraine can become a full member when it complies with the requirements like other EU members do.

Is it? Romania and Bulgaria went thorough massive changed to get hold of corruption and cleaner finances… and even after all that, Romanians and Bulgarians were restricted of free movement to the rest of the EU for more than a decade. What has Ukraine do so? A coup in 2014, disbanding many political parties, 100% disfranchising 1/3 of the population, a civil war and, even today, corruption more rampant than ever before. Russia was not justified to invade but Ukraine is not free of fault here, nor has made any attempt to improve.

The talks for Ukraine to join the EU is not EU’s benefit, let alone Ukrainians left there, its to fully antagonize Russia and to have a justification for full mobilization for war in Europe since Europeans are still not buying the need for tens of millions deaths for Zaporizhzhya to have a bi-color or a tri-color flag.

I had always supported Ukraine joining the EU since 2008 at least, but signing first a reassurance pact with Russia as Finland did in the 1950s. With the anti-Russian hatred cultivated in Ukraine (US worked really hard for that!) in the 2010s that ended with the coup, my support for their EU aspirations ended. The EU had already lots of problems before no now seeing that hatred infection affecting Baltic and even the Finland that once, thrived as no other country for not getting into antagonizing Moscow.

I am all for expanding the EU. Obviously there is work to be done by Ukraine.

So if you think neither Ukraine nor EU benefits from Ukraine joining, who benefits?

Why would antagonizing Russia be a problem? They already hate the EU. We have been listening for their threats for decades. And you wonder why the hate? You wouldn’t hate someone who threatens to nuke you every other week? We just want to be in peace. But somehow Russia thinks that is a threat.
