Chemical sunscreens can be. Mineral types that use zinc oxide or titanium oxide should be pretty okay to use.

As far as I can tell, the coconut husk thing is BS, cause it is well known and has been for some time that fungi can at least partially degrade some plasticsI was to lazy to see if the method used, an agar plate plaque assay, actually measues plastic degredation
