      That’s like saying pensioners pay taxes, sure, but they are currently drowning the French government while taking out more money than they contribute

      Why should hard working regular British people subsidise something they don’t want and don’t need?

        Because that’s the nature of insurance. You pay into it when you can and draw from it when you need to. It’s also an indication of a civilised society when it looks after the less fortunate.

          Yes when it has the capacity to do so, if the less fortunate outnumber the more fortunate eventually the society crumbles and you end up with a whole country full of less fortunates

          Analysis by the Centre for Social Justice (CSJ) suggests the increase in welfare spending this year alone is equivalent to 15 advanced Royal Navy frigates, 220 fighter jets, or 250,000 soldiers’ salaries, more than three times the size of the regular British Army.

          New figures show the cost of benefits and pensions will climb to around £333 billion this year, an increase larger than the annual budgets of several government departments combined.
