On one hand, the choice to be ethical is seen by corporations as a meaningless consumer choice, like picking between two breakfast cereals; on the other hand it helps develop the mindset that will be needed to reform society as time goes on: Long-term thinking, collectivism. Yes it is hard to try to do the right thing when your actions have no perceivable impact.
