Iran publicly stated they would bomb the surrounding infrastructure.

Iran has changed from their past muted responses with limited retaliation, to adopting a similar reaction as the aggressor. Their gas got bombed and Iran then bombed Qatari gas. Then they put out a statement saying they would bomb the region if they got bombed again and Trump walked it back

The only thing that works against the US hegemony is the fear of retaliation and Iran is showing they won’t be bullied into submission.
