> ❗️Spain rejects Trump’s ‘Board of Peace’ citing international law and exclusion of Palestinian voices
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez announced on Thursday that Spain will not join Donald Trump’s proposed “Board of Peace,” arguing that the initiative diverges from international law and excludes the Palestinian Authority. Speaking at the EU headquarters in Brussels, Sánchez said the future of Palestine must be decided by Palestinians themselves, not imposed through external mechanisms.
Spain’s refusal to join the board comes as Trump abruptly rescinded Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney’s invitation, despite Ottawa previously signaling its intention to participate. The move followed Carney’s sharp critique of US policy and global hegemony at the World Economic Forum in Davos.
The initiative, presented as a vehicle for reconstruction and governance in Gaza after two years of Israel’s genocidal war, has raised concerns over its vague mandate and potential to undermine the United Nations. Its founding executive board includes Jared Kushner, Tony Blair, and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, while participants include Israel and several regional states such as Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Egypt, Turkey, and Jordan.
