The European Union’s €90 billion loan for Ukraine will happen “one way or another”, Ursula von der Leyen has said in a visit to Kyiv that was largely overshadowed by Hungary’s last-minute decision to veto the financial programme.

“This word cannot be broken,” the president of the European Commission said on Tuesday, referring to the agreement reached by the 27 EU leaders in December.

    You know, if Russia truly is attempting to conquer and kill us all, and Ukraine are bravely leading the fight to stop them and protect all of Europe, one wonders why Europe doesn’t just give Ukraine all the weapons and money it needs… Seems like an oddly usurious way to respond to an existential crisis
