TOKYO - Twenty people were trapped inside an elevator at Tokyo Skytree tower from Sunday night for more than five hours, the operator said, adding that the facility, which is Japan’s tallest broadcasting tower and a popular tourist spot, will be closed throughout Monday for safety checks. ……
Oh, damn. I rode that a couple months ago, that would be fucking terrifying, especially since you can see up out of the ceiling.
That really sucks, 5 hours is miserable. And it’s busy so they pack those elevators.

But these people did get stuck. It’s always baffling how people always care for themselves first…

For the rescue, an elevator adjacent to the one that was stranded was positioned at the same height. A stainless panel – 120 centimeter long and 20 cm wide – was placed in-between so that customers were able to leave the stalled elevator from an emergency door on the side.
30 meters up, I might be able to do that. Much higher and I’d stand a better chance of survival unconscious. My hands are sweating so much just thinking about that that it’s noticeable while typing on my touchscreen.
That said, I also wouldn’t go to an elevated observation deck
