I like the concept. But I wonder, is there something similar that supports more modern codecs. (opus) Hell maybe even an open board design using something like an esp32 and an SD card reader. And if not why not. Wish I knew much about PCB design. Tiny low cost audio device a bit thicker than a stick of gum would be pretty awesome.
I definitely think there are, but at that point a used phone with a headphone jack would be far cheaper and have more parts/knowledgeable repairpeople available.
