2·1 day agoDefense systems also improve. Anubis can make the Proof-of-Work (PoW) more difficult or add new checks. This competition is won by whoever can keep their costs lower. When spammers have to use more resources for each pull request while normal users do not pay an extra cost, the defenders win.

3·2 days agobrowser-remote-controlling bot agents
if you mean some users giving control of their browser to an bot no it don’t because it’s still a legit user browser window
but most of bots don’t use a legit browser window (because it would be impossible to scale)
United States?? antitrust Law??

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Why is the herd mentality so common on Lemmy?English
1·2 days agoI do not like defederation. Users can block instances on their own. Admins should only defederate from illegal instances. For other instances, users can block them if they want. They can also unblock them later. I think defederation is not good. That is why I chose .zip. People on Lemmy should worry about this. The Fediverse is about connecting all instances. But some instances break this connection.

1·4 days agoI guess too much because think like you have 1000 videos each video is ~500 mb (also you’ll need to store 144p, 240p, 360p, 480p, 720p versions) let’s say 1 GB storage for each video, total storage need: 1TB just for one channel it’s ok but there would be like 10k channel at least
1 TB * 10000 = 20 TB * 500 = 500 hard disk with 20 TB
let’s say each one is $350 total $175,000 (and this is hard disk I thing you’re not going to use hard disks)
(and this is just storage I don’t know about traffic costs)

4·4 days agoI haven’t used Google Maps for four months. OpenStreetMap has been enough for me. I don’t need reviews, photos, or driving instructions. Also, the constant use of navigation apps is atrophying our mental mapping skills.

1·4 days agoI use a custom ROM (idk if this is the right word). I don’t have Google Services or any Google apps. My previous banking app didn’t accept custom ROMs, so I just canceled that and switched to one that does accept them. Now my banking app works great and I have no problems on my phone.

Not completely but they can apply on certified devices
