Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What do I tell my (republican) parents when they constantly bring up expensive gas prices and put the burden on California because of gas taxes and "stupid" regulatory fees?
17·13 days agoYes, I also don’t talk to my parents much.

World News@lemmy.world•US scraps limits on emissions from coal and gas power plantsEnglish
42·30 days ago“The reality is that America produces energy better and cleaner than anywhere else in the world, and our power plants should not be unfairly targeted,” the head of the EPA, Lee Zeldin, said on Monday.
Even IF that were true, your answer is to… stop doing the thing… which is the very basis of your argument to stop doing that thing?
The EPA is also seeking to get rid of all other greenhouse gas rules for the power sector.
WTF is wrong with these peoples’ brains?

10·1 month agoOoh, what about one of the supernovas:
SN 1006 (The Brightest)
- Date: April 1006
- Brightness: Reached a magnitude two or three times brighter than Venus, casting shadows on Earth.
SN 1054 (The Crab Nebula Creator)
- Date: July 1054
- Brightness: Visible in broad daylight for 23 days and stayed glowing in the night sky for nearly two years.

63·1 month agoIt’s exactly what they do. I have a house full of apple devices. There is no way to definitively say “stop” without accepting the prompt. And it has nothing to do with os versions or security updates.
Thanks for your “insight”

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Why do people want to live long beyond 50 years old?
3·1 month agoPerhaps you should reread my response more fully.
I don’t really respond to nonsensical commentary. E.g. your claim that suggesting someone may be experiencing depression is “vilifying” them. Or introducing the topic of people procreating after 50. Not what I said at all.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Why do people want to live long beyond 50 years old?
41·1 month agoOkay, the first recommendation I have for you is to evaluate yourself (or get evaluated) for signs of depression.
Next, ignoring religion… and factoring in your use of the word “want,” there are only two reasons to exist:
- Procreation (kinda self-defining isn’t it?)
- Enjoyment
Most creatures live only for the first. Humans have a developed pre-frontal cortex. This means we live “for more.” What that is (following the famous wisdom of Curly from city slickers) is up to you.
So, if you think no one over 50 has anything to offer the next generation (wisdom?) or has the ability to simply enjoy existing, then I have concern for you. If you need someone to explain this, well, I pity you.

2·1 month agoRight. Not heard. That’s why Sony put out this policy, because they can’t hear the complaints.
I’d say the complaints are working as intended.
Btw, I don’t have any sony products, so I can’t “stop” giving them money. But the idea that “stopping” further purchases is adequate remuneration for property theft is laughable.

Technology@lemmy.world•Sony Implements New Customer Harassment Policy Following Backlash Toward Its Plans to Stop Making Physical Game DiscsEnglish
1·1 month agoWell I’m not calling them. But obviously people are being heard. Hence this policy, article, and post.
I know its lost its luster and while I don’t actually need one by any means, I would love to set one day a week to simply have a beer and celebrate existing- as it were.
For me, Friday is already spoken for and doesn’t need anything extra. The same goes for Saturday… unless it’s grilling time with friends, which is always nice. Sundays are tough because the weekend is almost over… hmm.
No, I think the optimal time to force a moment of peace and meditation is mid-week. I was thinking maybe Thursday. Because… “we’re amlost there!” Monday is a no-go with four days ahead still. Blah. Wednesday is the halfway point where its all downhill, so I don’t think hump day needs anything extra.
I’d wager sweet spot is Tuesday. It can be the finish line to help push through a Monday. Gotta have those short term goals. I can handle Mondays and Sundays if my goal is only Tuesday. Rather than waiting all the way ‘til Friday.
