Can you be more specific?
Also, is it more of a "don’t want to live at all’ situation or a “don’t want to live like this” situation?

10·3 days agoIt’s smaller, and so there is less temptation to scroll when most of the posts I see are the same posts I saw yesterday.
I like the niche linguistic rebels I meet here, and even though I fundamentally disagree with them (“politics” shouldn’t refer to all human group decision, the oakframe is too cryptic for most people to adopt, and “th” is better than "þ"by a wide margin), I respect their willingness to step out of the language comfort zone. Not many people can do that.
Also, I like the idea of starting my own Reddit/Twitter/YouTube, so to speak :D

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•why are .mls and grad.mls like that?English
1·4 days agoYeah, probably. Wouldn’t be the first time, or the last.
Doesn’t matter.
What’s more likely? That they’re part of some conspiracy to hide the fact that France is a colonial country… or that they couldn’t give a detailed list?
That said, it would be nice to have a full list but I’m too burned out at the moment to look for it myself.

21·4 days agoUnfortunately, yes. Best we can do is build a middle space and gently but firmly insist upon nuance.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•If most of the jobs get replaced by AI, how people will have income to spend on products which will likely be produced by AI itself?English
2·4 days agoThat’s not what I meant by “one”, but nvm.
Also, if we ever reach that point, I’m not fighting for any of them. And not just for moral reasons - it will be more profitable to steal from them, and since the social contract will be broken anyway…
But I’d rather fo my best now to make sure that doesn’t happen to begin with, and I thankfully live somewhere where my effort might actually might make some impact (the European Union).

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•why are .mls and grad.mls like that?English
173·4 days agoBecause social media is where nuance goes to die - and that applies to both MLs and us.
A lot of them overcorrect from falling for capitalist propaganda into falling for USSR propaganda
For example, about North Korea. Claims about it are probably exaggerated to some degree, but I sincerely doubt it’s secretly the success story at least one ML I had the displeasure of talking to seems to believe it to be.
The truth is nuanced. Nuance is hard. Blaming everything on the West is easy.
On the other hand, MLs themselves are also more nuanced than we often give them credit.
Unfortunately, like nuance, communication is also hard. Especially in hot-headed situations like this.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How to survive effectively and in the long term in the post-apocalypse?English
1·4 days agoI doubt that a civilizational collapse will all happen overnight (or even within a year or a decade). If things fall apart, they will do so over a long period of time (and one might argue this is already happening to some extent).
However, this also means that, given some effort and foresight, we can easily prevent a full collapse by replacing the collapsing systems with something more local and sustainable.

8·4 days agoWhy would the owners need to keep the system running if they have all the resources and tools?
One need not worry about the game not being able to continue if one already won.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•When do you think middle class people will be able to go to mars?English
6·5 days agoProfessionally (like Apollo and Artemis)? Possibly within this century. And the first person setting foot on Mars will likely be a middle-class professional astronaut like Armstrong or Aldrin.
Privately? It’s going to be a while. Middle class people in any country still can’t even go to low Earth orbit, let alone the Moon or Mars.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•When do you think middle class people will be able to go to mars?English
1·5 days agoIt’s more cost-effective to create horrible working conditions for people on Earth than to send them to Mars for it. Just set the launchpad somewhere with very lax worker rights’ laws (or better, somewhere where you can “lobby” for laws to become looser).
Being an evil robber baron is no excuse for inefficiency.
